Jacob Groom and Justin Adams scored 10 points apiece in the decisive third quarter, when the visiting Pioneers outscored the Hawks 20-2.

Sandy’s defensive pressure forced six Hockinson turnovers in the third quarter to turn around a game the Hawks led 26-23 at halftime.

“I’ve got to credit Sandy’s defense,” Hockinson coach Matt Gruhler said. “They ramped up their defensive intensity in the third quarter.”

Sandy’s defense also was a factor in Hockinson struggling with its 3-point shooting, Gruhler said.

Adams finished with a game-high 22 points and Groom scored 20.

Nine players scored for Hockinson, led by 13 points from Wyatt Yearout.
