East Old Evergreen Highway — The effort to get a pedestrian trail built along Old Evergreen Highway has taken a small step forward, but raising money remains a major hurdle. Berger ABAM, a firm with offices in Vancouver, has been retained by the grass-roots Old Evergreen Trail Coalition, oldevergreenhighwaytrail.com, to develop preliminary plans for the trail. Berger’s price: $150,000. One-third of that has already been raised — including support from the City of Vancouver — but the remaining $100,000 must be raised by Jan 31, according to the latest East Old Evergreen Highway Neighborhood Association newsletter. Tax-deductible donations can be funneled through the Parks Foundation, parksfoundation.us. If the money is raised in time, an overall design and cost estimate for the project should be ready by the end of August, organizers say.
