Why: With more holidays around the corner, Fudge Fix at Daisy Maiz provides a convenient stop to fill some of the sweet wishes of family and friends with delicious handmade fudge and Daisy Maiz Kettle Korn. Georgann Anderson and her husband, Allen, began making Daisy Maiz Kettle Korn nine years ago and branched into fudge production three years later. They are a regular vendor at the Vancouver Farmers Market. The shop supplies kettle corn to selected Portland and Vancouver locations. On my recent visit, Anderson was on her way to take a special order of fudge to an Intel event.
Atmosphere: The shop is bright and welcoming even on a cloudy day. Its old-fashioned appeal is simple and quaint. One side of the shop displays Daisy Maiz Kettle Korn. Opposite the neatly displayed bags of kettle corn, a colorful selection of fudge is presented behind a spotless glass partition.
What I Tried: I bought three pounds of fudge to take home and sample. Each pound of fudge came with a free quarter-pound, so I sampled all the flavors of the day, including: pumpkin, cappuccino, caramellow, chocolate divinity, white divinity, chocolate peanut butter swirl, milk chocolate, chocolate caramel with sea salt, dark chocolate, chocolate raspberry swirl, Joan’s Surprise, praline, orange chocolate, chocolate mint, and penuchi. I also purchased some Daisy Maiz Kettle Korn in cheese, caramel, and light-and-clean varieties.
All the fudge had scrumptious sweet flavor. Different textures and consistencies were determined mostly by the addition of nuts and caramel. Some flavors were denser than others. My favorite, if I had to pick one, was the chocolate raspberry swirl. I also found the cappuccino delightful. The chocolate caramel with sea salt was a tasty departure from the expected, and praline had an appealing texture and flavor as well.
