Deja Nicholas scored 21 of her 35 points in the second half, including the final two on a lay-up with three seconds to play, sending Evergreen to a non-league win over Parkrose of Portland.
After jumping to a 20-10 lead after one quarter, Evergreen got in foul trouble and Parkrose took advantage with a 21-6 advantage in the second quarter.
Evergreen coach Jay Foreman credited the defense of Vella Jackson as another key player with her inside play, blocking shots and pulling down rebounds.
“I think we grew up a lot in this game,” Foreman said. “We played a team that was nothing but seniors, and they played a little rougher and tougher than we are used to facing. But we hung with them and got the win. Hopefully, this is the type of win that will propel us to greater things later on.”
