Preston Brooks knocked down a go-ahead 3-pointer in the final minute as the Falcons held on down the stretch to win their 3A Greater St. Helens League opener.
Prairie’s top scorer James Phillips fouled out with five minutes to play, but the Falcons did not falter down the stretch of a nip-and-tuck game. Prairie converted 15 of 18 free throws.
Cobi Johnson’s 3-point snapped a five-minute scoreless streak for Kelso and cut Prairie’s lead to 51-50. Seth Gillihan’s jumper with 1:22 left put Kelso ahead 52-51.
But Brooks’ 3-pointer sparked a late 7-0 run for Prairie to seal the win.
Mason Pack led Prairie with 19 points, and Brooks added 10.
