A local food bank is extending its once-a-month Wednesday night food distributions into February.
The Lewis River Mobile Food Bank announced that it has scheduled additional evening sessions for this Wednesday, as well as Jan. 9 and Feb. 13.
The mobile food bank will be at the Clark County Fire & Rescue station, 38615 N.E. 41st Ave., from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
The distribution site is about three miles northeast of La Center, near Highland Lutheran Church.
The Lewis River Food Bank has focused on Sunday afternoon distributions in north Clark County for almost three years. Since September, the volunteers have been gauging the demand on other days and at other times.
“We’re still not reaching the people who can’t come on Sundays,” said Candice Howell, president of the food bank’s board. “It takes a while for word to get around.”
At its most recent Wednesday night session, in November, four people showed up to obtain food.
The normal monthly schedule, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., is as follows:
• First Sunday: View Fire Station, 37604 N.E. 119th Avenue, La Center;
• Second Sunday: Fire District 2 station, 314 N.W. 389th St., La Center;
• Third Sunday: Yacolt Evangelical Free Church, 509 W. Cushman St., Yacolt;
• Fourth Sunday: La Center Evangelical Free Church, 111 E. Fifth St., La Center.
