The NAIA All-America committee, which is comprised of the NAIA-Women’s Soccer Coaches Association officers and seven additional women’s soccer coaches, select the All-America teams.
Concordia’s Danciu 2nd Team All-America
Concordia University junior forward Septi Danciu has been named to the NAIA All-America Second Team for men’s soccer.
The Evergreen High School graduate, originally from Romania, was previously named Cascade Collegiate Conference Player of the Year.
Danciu led the Cavaliers and the CCC with 19 goals, six assists and 44 total points this season. He also led the nation with nine game-winning goals this season.
The NAIA All-America committee consists of the NAIA-Men’s Soccer Coaches Association Executive Committee, the championship games committee and two men’s soccer coaches based on geography.
WWU’s Sych a 2nd Team D-II All-America
Western Washington University junior defender Brina Sych is a Second Team selection to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America NCAA Division II Women’s Soccer All-America Team.
The Union High School graduate is also a First Team NSCAA West Region All-Star.
Sych was earlier named Great Northwest Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year.
Sych had five goals and five assists for the Vikings this season, and played a key role on a defense that allowed just nine goals in 23 games. During one stretch, the Vikings recorded 10 consecutive shutouts and had a scoreless string of 919 minutes and 29 seconds.
Also, Western Washington junior forward Joana Houplin, a graduate of Columbia River High School, was named to the West Region All-Star second team.
Linfield’s Allison All-West Region
Linfield College senior defender Emily Allison was named NCAA Division III All-West Region Second Team for women’s soccer.
The Hockinson High School graduate was earlier named Northwest Conference Defensive Player of the Year.
A senior captain, Allison was key to a Wildcat defense that set program records for shutouts (11) and fewest goals allowed (10). Both marks were tops in the NWC.
She leaves the program as a two-time league all-star after receiving Second Team honors as a junior.
Pac-12 honors WSU’s Irwin for academics
Washington State junior setter Camryn Irwin was named to the Pacific-12 Conference’s All-Academic Women’s Volleyball First Team.
The Prairie High School graduate carries a 3.97 cumulative grade point average and is majoring in journalism and media production at WSU.
Irwin is sixth on the Cougars’ all-time list with 2,323 career assists in two seasons at WSU after transferring from Oregon.
Irwin began the season 10th on the list.
Among those she has passed is Maureen Melhart, the former Maureen Perez, a Heritage High School graduate and the current Columbia River High School head volleyball coach, who had 1,980 assists during her three seasons with the program in 2005-07.
SUU’s Browning gets notice as freshman
Southern Utah freshman linebacker Zak Browning was named Big Sky Conference Newcomer of the Year and is one of 20 finalists for the Jerry Rice Award, given each year to the top freshman football player at the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision level.
The Union High School graduate was the top freshman tackler in the nation this season with 11.6 tackles per game.
Browning led the Thunderbirds and the Big Sky Conference with 116 total tackles.
His per-game average ranked second in the Big Sky and seventh in the nation, overall.
He had seven games with 10 or more tackles, including an 18-tackle performance at Montana and 15-tackle tallies against Montana State and Eastern Washington. The 18 tackles are the second-most in a game by an SUU freshman during its NCAA era.
