Dwight D. Eisenhower Elementary is the only school in Clark County to be included on a list of 58 high-performing schools that also house a lot of students from low-income families.
The list, released by state school officials Monday, is part of a reform package introduced after Washington received a waiver from certain federal school regulations in July.
As part of the waiver agreement with federal officials, the state will now identify “priority schools,” “focus schools” and “reward schools.” All of them are selected from among Title I schools, which are those that receive special federal money based on their enrollment percentage of children from low-income families.
Reward schools are classified either as “highest-performing schools” or a “high-progress schools.” A high-progress school is a Title I school in the top 10 percent of Title I schools in reading and math, combined, for three years. Eisenhower, which is located in the West Hazel Dell neighborhood, was designated a high-progress school.
This is the first time this list has been published.
