A Camas resident was injured after he was assaulted by a man with a knife in the parking lot of the Walgreens store in Camas on Sunday.

According to a Camas Police Department news release, Mario M. Pena, 53, of Cascade Locks, Ore., was arrested on charges of first degree assault. Pena is accused of cutting a 29-year-old acquaintance in the parking lot at the 3300 block of Northeast Third Avenue, during an altercation that followed a drug deal that went bad.

The victim called 911 at approximately 12:50 p.m. to report that his left forearm had been lacerated with a knife by a Hispanic male associated with a black Jeep.

When police arrived, the suspect had already left the scene in the Jeep. A short time later, the vehicle was located by Washougal police on state Route 14 within Washougal city limits. CPD Sgt. Scot Boyles said Monday that Pena, who was found in the vehicle, was taken into custody and arrested without incident.

The crime remains under investigation by the Camas Police Department.
