Just a few more days left in the month and we shall see if we can squeak through without any measurable rainfall. A few areas to our west had measurable rainfall late Sunday but I only heard of a few sprinkles here and there. I could smell moisture outside about 7:30 p.m. Sunday. I kind of wish it would have rained for a few moments, just to freshen the air.
A weak trough of low pressure passing through our region late today into Wednesday offers the best chance of a light shower. There will be another one on Thursday, and then the holiday weekend looks very nice, with highs around 80 degrees and fair skies, at least for the first two days. Late Sunday and Monday, Labor Day, we may see some breezy and wet conditions, so stay tuned and let’s see how that pans out.
August 2011 was very similar to this year, with only .05 of an inch of rain and that only fell on two days during the latter half of the month. The average mean temperature ended up at 69.6 degrees, .4 degrees above average. Our current average mean temperature is running at 71.4 degrees, nearly 2 degrees above average. I think we will be close to 70 degrees for an average temperature when the month ends Friday.
It’s very dry here but the big news in the precipitation department will be from the storm in the Gulf of Mexico. Forecasters were predicting that Isaac would bring rainfall between 12 and 24 inches — wow, that is a deluge for sure.
