An 83-year-old Vancouver man was killed Saturday in a two-car accident on state Highway 14 near Stevenson, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Hans P. Egger, who farmed for many years in the Vancouver Lake lowlands, suffered head and neck trauma in the crash. Three others were injured.

A WSP bulletin said the crash occurred at 11:50 a.m. about a half mile west of Stevenson when a 1991 Toyota pickup driven east by Walter B. McIlwain, 31, of Seattle tried to pass two vehicles that had stopped in front of him and crashed into a 2009 Toyota Camry driven by Jacqueline E. Marsh, 49, of Vancouver as she made a left turn.

The pickup struck the driver’s side of the car and pushed it off the highway and down an embankment.

Egger, a passenger in Marsh’s car, was pronounced dead at the scene. Marsh, McIlwain and his passenger, John R. Cox, 49, of White Swan, were treated at PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center and released.

Both vehicles were totaled. The crash is under investigation, and the WSP bulletin said charges are pending.
