Sylvester Green said he knew what he was getting into when he signed on for the job as head coach of the Hudson’s Bay football program. He has been with the program the past two years as an assistant. He knows all too well the record: 3-15.
“I expect it to be a rebuild, a challenge, with so much of a disarray,” Green said. “But it’s also easy to snap it right back into place.”
Green said he expects the Eagles to be more competitive this year and the program is about a year from really turning around into a winner again.
The Eagles last had a winning season in 2002, and went 8-2 in 2001.
This is Green’s second stint as a head coach.
He held the same position at a private school in Los Angeles before returning to the Northwest. Green played football at Oregon State in the 1990s. He joined Bay’s staff in 2010, assisting former OSU teammate Will Ephraim. Green remained an assistant under Mike Funderburg, who was the coach last year.
“I would not choose any other place,” Green said. “I wanted to be here. And I’m pleasantly surprised how the guys have responded to me.”
