I am enjoying the last days of summer are you? I did a little sunbathing on my deck Saturday, stopped by and got a snow cone at the little shack off NE Hwy 99 and NE 117th Street. Ventured down to the bench along the Columbia and watched the sailboats in the gentle breeze.
The late evenings are very calm right now and the sound of crickets can be heard. The half moon has been nice and orange the past few nights as we head into yet another full moon this coming Friday. This will be a “blue moon” as we enjoyed a full moon on Aug. 1. Two full moons in a single month is considered a blue moon, you have heard the old saying, “Once in a blue moon.” The full moon on Aug. 1 was called the full “surgeon moon”.
My favorite full moon of the year is the “harvest moon” which will be present in our skies on Sept. 29.
There were some chilly overnight lows this past week, down into the 40s in the urban areas and dipping into the upper 30s in the far outlying areas. Tom Dixon, of Amboy, reported a low of 39.7 F early Friday morning. He adds, “Not good for the garden but as long as we can hold off an actual frost for hopefully a few more weeks we will be in reasonably good shape.”
