A mechanical failure played a factor in a fatal dump truck crash near Camas last week, officials said.
Investigators determined a mechanical failure affected the truck’s braking ability, Sgt. Dennis Pritchard said Friday. The cause of the failure is still under investigation, he said.
Truck driver Jerrold Hughart, 70, was killed on impact when his dump truck went off Northeast 262nd Avenue around 3:45 p.m. on Aug. 15. Hughart failed to negotiate a corner in his loaded gravel truck near Bradford Road north of Camas, a CCSO bulletin said.
The Clark County Sheriff’s Office and East County Fire & Rescue responded to the crash.
