Open Cockpit Day at Pearson Air Museum

The Columbian
Published: August 22, 2012, 5:00pm

People will be able to climb into the cockpit of vintage aircraft Saturday during Open Cockpit Day at Pearson Air Museum.

From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., visitors will have the opportunity to experience a pilot’s perspective while sitting in a historic aircraft.

Weather permitting, the pilots from aviation organizations based in Hillsboro, Ore., and Camas-Washougal’s Grove Field will give free airplane rides to children 8 to 17 on a first-come, first-served basis. A parent or legal guardian must be present to give written permission. Slots fill up quickly, so families should arrive early to register children for the rides.

The museum’s flight simulator lab will be open for visitors and will be staffed by pilot volunteers.

Pearson Air Museum is at 1115 E. Fifth Street. Regular admission rates apply: $7 for adults; $5 for seniors, active military with ID and children 6 to 17; children 5 and under are free.
