An annual survey next month will count the number of bicyclists and pedestrians in Vancouver and other Washington cities, according to the state Department of Transportation.

State officials and the Cascade Bicycle Club are looking for more than 300 volunteers to help conduct the fifth annual survey on Sept. 25-27.

The information gathered will be used to track the state’s progress in increasing bicycling and walking.

The survey also will become part of a larger national bicycle and pedestrian count sponsored by the Institute of Transportation Engineers’ Pedestrian and Bicycle Council.

Vancouver, Kelso and Longview are among 35 cities included in the Washington count.
