Please, oh please, say it’s not so.
Just last week the weather seemed to indicate that summer was finally here. With temperatures reaching into the upper 90s, the Washougal River was packed with people looking to cool off. The Camas Municipal Pool hit capacity. Youngsters gathered at Hamllik Park to feel the refreshing spray of water sprayed from the local fire department’s fire hose.
But, as temperatures quickly cooled this week reality hit as well. Fall is just around the corner. High school sports practices are already underway. Classes are about to begin. The Camas pool is entering the final week of its 2012 season. Halloween decorations have already hit some store shelves. Summer, as most of us know it, will soon be over.
But, all is not lost. There are many reasons to be excited as the seasons prepare to change. To name a few: Football and soccer games at Fishback and Doc Harris stadiums; friends reconnecting after months apart during the school break; and the transition to nature’s fall colors that reminds us all why we love to live in the Pacific Northwest.
With the more positive aspects of the onset of fall in mind, in today’s Post-Record are the Back-to School pages starting on page B1. Parents and students can find details about what’s new in the Camas and Washougal school districts this year, as well as lists of back-to-school events being held in the next couple of weeks as schools prepare to welcome all students for the 2012-13 school year on Tuesday, Sept. 4.
