Fire destroyed a La Center barn and damaged two nearby houses early Monday morning, officials said.
Firefighters were dispatched to the fire at 39400 N.E. 80th Ave. around 6:17 a.m., said Capt. Cheryl Vincent with Clark County Fire District 10.
Ten firefighters, two engines, two water tenders and a squad responded to the blaze, where the barn was engulfed in flames.
The 24-by-36-foot barn was a total loss, Vincent said, along with the home- owners’ large tool collection that was stored inside it. Two goats and a donkey escaped the barn before it burned, she said. A Clark County fire marshal estimated the damage was about $20,000. The fire caused heat damage to an older house that was about six feet away from the barn and another house on the property.
