Firefighters had to tear out a deck that was on fire Tuesday afternoon at a house in Ridgefield.

“With the weather, we’re not taking any chances,” said Fire District 6 Chief Jerry Green.

Fire District 6 responded at 3:23 p.m. to 3011 N.E. 179th St. to what was originally reported as a house fire. However, the fire was contained to the back deck and crews were able to put it out in two to three minutes, Green said.

People were waiting at the home when crews arrived, but it was unclear whether they lived in the house or not. Clark County property records indicate the home is owned by Ruth C. Samson, who has a San Mateo, Calif., mailing address.

The cause of the fire is not known, and a fire marshal is investigating.
