Investigators were unable to find evidence to support claims of a reported shooting at the Gee Creek rest area along Interstate 5 near Ridgefield Monday night.

Law enforcement at about 10:30 p.m. Monday closed the passenger vehicle area of the rest stop, according to emergency radio traffic monitored at The Columbian.

Deputies from the Clark County Sheriff’s Office and Washington State Patrol conducted an investigation in the area after a man reported seeing a shooting in the area, said Trooper Stephen Robley, state patrol spokesman.

“There is no evidence to support it (the man’s claims),” Robley said. He added there were no additional 911 calls to report the shooting and no one in the rest area heard gun shots.
