Try this: Fair set for a big finish

The Clark County Fair draws to a close this weekend. Visitors can attend the free monster truck shows starting at 2 and 6:30 p.m. on the Grandstand Stage on both days. The always entertaining dock dogs competition also takes place, with the finals beginning at 5 p.m. Sunday. You can discover cowboy tricks inside a Wild West town and haunted gold mine, visit with the little animals at the petting zoo, see circus acts, or explore commercial and community exhibits.

2. Local country songstress to perform

Local country singer Britnee Kellogg will perform in the outdoor setting of Three Brothers Vineyard as part of the winery’s summer concert series. The performance by the “American Idol” contestant will benefit the Children’s Center’s “Glamorous Gams” fall fundraiser. Lawn chairs and blankets suggested.

3. Brews for a cause

The first annual Vancouver Brewfest will celebrate 25 local brews in the budding beer scene, along with local food and craft vendors. The festival will feature local bands, including Richie and the Catillacs. The event will benefit local charities Fish First, Disabled American Veterans, Second Chance Companions and Multiple Sclerosis Society of Portland.

4. Cut loose with ‘Footloose’

Musical fans can enjoy the premier of Christian Community Theatre’s stage adaptation of “Footloose.” City kid Ren McCormack, played by Robert Head, finds himself transplanted to the rural town of Bomont, where rock ‘n’ roll and dancing are outlawed. Ren becomes friends with Willard, played by Casey Pitel, and begins to fall for the rebellious reverend’s daughter, Ariel, played by Claire Flatz. The production features music from the film mixed with songs specifically written for the stage.

5. Streep’s latest ‘Springs’ into theaters

Decades of marriage have left Kay (Meryl Streep) wanting to spice things up and reconnect with her husband Arnold (Tommy Lee Jones). She attempts to persuade a stubborn Arnold to fly with her to Great Hope Springs for a week of marriage therapy with a renowned specialist (Steve Carell). They are challenged to shed their personal hang-ups and try to reignite the spark that had them falling for each other in the first place. “Hope Springs” is rated PG-13.
