Motorists should expect delays on six east Vancouver streets set to undergo “microsurfacing” work starting next week. Crews will work between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, according to the city’s public works department.
Crews have six streets on the slate for resurfacing, including three major thoroughfares:
• Northeast 162nd Avenue between Northeast 18th and 39th streets.
• Northeast 192nd Avenue between Southeast 15th and First streets.
• Southeast McGillivray Boulevard between Southeast 132nd and 164th avenues.
Crews will also resurface smaller sections of Northeast 121st Avenue, Northeast Ward Road and Northeast Covington Road — all between Fourth Plain Boulevard and the city’s boundary.
The work is part of the city’s annual Pavement Management Program, which is directing an estimated $5 million in work to east Vancouver this year. California-based Western Pavement Solutions will take on the microsurfacing work as the low bidder on the project at $551,670.
Microsurfacing is a resealing process that applies a coarse liquid emulsion to a street’s existing surface to extend its life. The quick-setting mixture can allow traffic to drive on it in as little as an hour after application, according to the city.
The three sections of road entirely within city limits will be treated next week, according to the city. Others will follow later this month.
