A memorial to longtime Clark County Fair veterinarian Dr. Jack Giesy will be held Friday, Aug. 10, according to Matt Ferris, the fair’s marketing manager.
The event will begin at 11 a.m. at the Jack Giesy Arena, an indoor riding facility located on the north side of the fairgrounds, off the midway.
Giesy died July 28 at age 80. For decades, he had been involved in the fair and in 4-H youth programs. He worked with thousands of fair exhibitors, many of whom were children, over the years. Horses were his passion, but he would treat any animal that needed assistance.
He practiced at Vancouver Veterinary Hospital.
In addition to the horse arena, the fair presents an annual Jack Giesy Golden Horseshoe Award annually to the most accomplished junior, intermediate and senior 4-H horse exhibitors.
