Drivers, pedestrians and bicyclists in east Vancouver should expect delays on Southeast 164th Avenue later this month as crews begin paving work in the area.

Paving is slated to start the week of Aug. 19 and will continue through September, if weather permits, a city of Vancouver news release said.

Much of the grinding and paving work will happen at night to minimize commuter impact. Night construction will be from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday through Thursday.

Access to properties off the road will be maintained but driveways off 164th Avenue will be closed during construction hours. Traffic signs, flags and notices will alert drivers of lane closures and detours. People should take other routes when possible.

The work is part of the city’s 2012 Pavement Management Program and comes on the heels of intersection improvements in the area.
