The largest Sikh community in the Vancouver/Portland region will hold a Thursday night prayer meeting and candlelight vigil in honor of the victims of the Aug. 5 shooting at a Sikh temple in Wisconsin.

The Guru Ramdass Gurdwara will host a 6 p.m. prayer meeting indoors, followed by an 8 p.m. candlelight vigil outdoors, on Thursday Aug. 9 at 3600 “O” Street in Vancouver.

The 6 p.m. prayer meeting will be “primarily in our native language” and is intended for members of the congregation — although the public is welcome, said congregation spokesman Pawneet Sethi.

The 8 p.m. candlelight vigil is for the entire community, Sethi said. It will be followed by a traditional community meal offered by the group. All are welcome.
