ANDRESEN/ST. JOHNS — Meeting a police dog isn’t always a pleasant experience, but the afternoon of Aug. 1 was an exception for one local 5-year-old. Clark County’s honorary sheriff, Carter Harris, got a chance to meet and “inspect” the regional K-9 group during their weekly training as part of his honorary sheriff duties. The inspection included a briefing on what the team does, a photo and “a lot of dog petting,” said sheriff’s Sgt. Shane Gardner, who helped organized the event.
Carter, was diagnosed with leukemia in December 2010 and became Clark County’s latest participant in the Washington State Chief for a Day program in May. He participated in the Law Enforcement Memorial Day Event, cut the ribbon for the Rose Festival, rode in a boat in the Hazel Dell Parade and was the grand marshall of the children’s parade in Felida.
