Results for local races, issues will be available on the Post-Record website

The Clark County Elections Department will start releasing the results of the Primary Election at approximately 8:30 p.m. tonight.

Ballots can be hand-delivered up until 8 p.m. today to Camas sites at Dorothy Fox Elementary School, 2623 N.W. Sierra St., Grace Foursquare Church, 717 S.E. Everett Road, Helen Baller Elementary School, 1954 N.E. Garfield St., and Prune Hill Elementary School, 1601 N.W. Tidland St. and in Washougal at the community center, 1681 “C” St.

Among those anxiously awaiting the tabulations will be Camas Fire Chief Nick Swinhart and Camas Mayor Scott Higgins, who are hoping to see the city’s proposed emergency medical services levy increase approved by at least half of the voters casting their ballots.

If it receives the required simple majority, the six-year levy would raise the current rate from 35 cents per $1,000 of assessed value to 46 cents. Starting in 2013, the owner of a $300,000 home would pay $138 per year — a $33 increase. The current levy expires at the end of the year. If it doesn’t pass in this Primary Election, officials have said they will re-run the levy in the November General Election.

There are also several state, federal and county political races that will see the candidate field narrowed significantly following tonight’s results.

In the race for Third District U.S. Representative, incumbent Jaime Herrera Beutler, a Camas resident, is taking on Jon T. Haugen and Norma Jean Stevens. In the 18th State Legislative District races, Position No. 2 candidates are David Shehorn and two Camas residents, Ryan Gompertz and Liz Pike. For County Commissioner District 2, incumbent Marc Boldt has a number of competitors including Pat Campbell, David Madore and Camas resident Roman Battan.

In each race, the two candidates receiving the most votes, regardless of political party, will move on to the Tuesday, Nov. 6 General Election.
