CHELAN (AP) — A wildfire that has burned about six square miles near Chelan in central Washington did not spread overnight.

Fire management spokesman Jeff Sevigny says about 250 firefighters are working Tuesday to put out hot spots and finish building lines around the 4,000-acre fire that is about 40 percent contained.

He says residents of about 50 homes have been told they should be ready to evacuate, just in case. It’s the first stage of a three-step evacuation warning system known as “ready, set, go.”

No structures have burned since the fire broke out Sunday in grass and light timber. Alta Lake State Park was closed.
