A Brush Prairie man was injured early Monday when his motorcycle hit an elk on state Highway 12 in Lewis County, according to Washington State Patrol.

Charles L. Wallace, 56, was driving a 1990 Harley-Davidson east on Highway 12 about 27 miles east of Morton when he hit an elk that was standing in the road, a state patrol bulletin said. The crash happened around 2:15 a.m.

Wallace was sent to Morton General Hospital with lacerations to his face and left hand. He was treated and released.

The crash caused an estimated $400 in damage to the motorcycle.

Wallace was cited for driving without a motorcycle endorsement, state patrol said.
