Clark baseball, softball split doubleheaders

Casey Sawyer’s sacrifice fly in the sixth inning broke a 1-1 tie as the Clark College baseball team defeated the Linfield JV 2-1 on Saturday at Kindsfather Field.

Linfield took the second game of the non-NWAACC doubleheader, 2-0. Both teams were held to three hits. Linfield pitcher Aaron Thomasen struck out 10 in the complete-game victory.

In the opener, Connor Perry’s run-scoring single in the second inning tied the game at 1-1 after Linfield scored in the top of the second.

Chase Aldridge, the third of five Clark pitchers, earned the victory.

Union High grad Garett Speyer went 5 1/3 innings for Linfield in a no decision. He allowed six hits and struck out three.

Clark (20-12) returns to NWAACC West Division play on May 5, hosting Tacoma in a 1 p.m. doubleheader.

SOFTBALL

The Clark College softball team split a doubleheader at Mt. Hood in Gresham on Saturday.

Mt. Hood won the first game 9-0, and Clark took the second game 3-2.

Camas High grad Kelsey Eason was 3 for 4 with two doubles in the Clark victory.

Clark (10-14, 6-11 NWAACC South Division) broke a 2-2 tie with a run in the top of the sixth inning.

Mt. Hood (15-13, 6-7) ran away with the first game, scoring five in the sixth inning. Clark was held to four hits, two by Eason.

Clark next travels to Southwestern Oregon in Coos Bay on Tuesday.
