Some Battle Ground residents were asked to confine themselves to their homes for about 40 minutes just after noon Saturday when someone digging a hole for a fence post hit a gas line and caused a leak.
The smell of gas could be detected for about 100 yards all around the leak at a residence at 1902 S.W. First Court, said Battle Ground Fire Battalion Chief Brett Graham. A reverse 9-1-1 system was used to call residents’ telephone land lines and ask them to remain in their homes. Homes within a half-mile radius of the leak were notified.
No one was injured during the repair of the leak by Northwest Natural.
Battle Ground firefighters were on the scene for about 40 minutes to protect workers in case of any ignitions.
