Kind of an interesting day of sorts Wednesday, with lots of clouds, some mugginess and an interesting late afternoon outbreak of showers and thunderstorms. Some intense storms moved up from the south, but for the most part, as of 5 p.m., they remained just east of Vancouver. There were some pretty dark-looking clouds, for sure.
That is what makes spring so interesting; never a dull moment, it seems. Rain Thursday and showers Friday may make for a dry weekend number four if we are lucky. Not as warm as the past few, but April may exit on a fairly dry note the last few days.
Weather observer Tyler Mode of Battle Ground had the following observation about our spring weather so far. “I’m sure a lot of gardeners do this, but I keep a diary of sorts detailing when plants and trees in the yard are at certain stages in the spring and fall. I have a green vase Zelkova tree. On May 13th last year, I noted it was just starting to get green buds. As of a couple of days ago, it is fully leafed. Also, the rhodies in my backyard were just starting to bloom on May 13th, this year they have already started. My Zelkova tree did not fully leaf out until June 12th last year. So in all, things are running 3-6 weeks ahead, at least at my house.”
Well, that is certainly an improvement over last year when things were really late budding and leafing out.
