Blazers escapee Marcus Camby made some interesting comments recently about the psychological condition of Portland’s NBA team.

To refresh, this is a team whose season began with Brandon Roy’s injury-hastened retirement, endured yet another health setback and the final parting with No. 1 draft pick Greg Oden, and ended with hip surgery for LaMarcus Aldridge.

Here’s what Camby said: “They might not want to admit it, but when I was there, my goodness, people (in the locker room) were saying, ‘Are we really snake-bit? Are we really cursed?’ Doubts and talks like that come about.”

Also of note: Deep-pocketed Paul Allen’s team has been run by an interim coach and interim general manager. Maybe Allen should buy the staff of a franchise like San Antonio and move them all to Portland.

Finally: Most NBA power rankings have the Blazers about No. 20. Hard to believe there are 10 worse teams in the league right now.

One-quarter into the renovation of Husky Stadium, University of Washington officials say the best news is there really isn’t much news at all.

Athletic director Scott Woodward said this week that the $250 million renovation, set to be completed in time for the 2013 football season, is “on time and on budget. And that’s music to my ears.” As the building phase of the project begins, Woodward updated media and allowed photographers to shoot the site.

Washington set a goal of raising $50 million in major gifts by the end of construction (officially set for Aug. 8, 2013), and Woodward said the current total is $48.5 million.

He admitted he was worried if UW could raise that money when the project began a few years ago.

“I was scared beyond belief,” Woodward said of the tough economic climate.
