Fisher’s Landing — In April, Sharon Coverstone, 62, who is legally blind, spent four weeks working with her new guide dog, Tara, and her trainers. Tara was provided by Guide Dogs of the Desert in White Water, Calif. Because of allergies in her family, Coverstone was without a dog for more than a year while she waited for a standard poodle, which do not cause allergies. “Tara will be glued to my left side from now on,” Coverstone said. “Having a guide dog provides a fabulous feeling of freedom.” Her last guide dog helped her reach the summit of Mount St. Helens.
