Wine, beer and spirits mega retailer BevMo has applied for liquor licenses at three sites in the Puget Sound area and the California-based company is looking for more locations, a spokeswoman said Tuesday.
“We’re looking at a lot of different cities in Washington,” said Kris Mulkey, a BevMo spokeswoman. Once licensed, the stores could sell alcohol on June 1, the date liquor sales in Washington will be handled by private retail businesses.
So far, the company has applied to sell liquor in Tacoma, Silverdale and Tukwila near the Westfield Southcenter mall. Mulkey said BevMo looks for high-density areas near populations with a propensity to drink beer, wine and spirits.
The company operates 115 stores in California and Arizona, selling alcohol – including 3,000 varieties of wine – softdrinks, snacks and glassware.
