Talking Points: Perfect ground crew

What’s the buzz from the world of sports? Here are some items that will have people talking:

1

Of all the images that came from Saturday’s perfect game by Chicago White Sox pitcher Philip Humber was something rather unique.

There he was, standing on the Safeco Field grass (or dirt … you really can’t tell) with the members of the grounds crew.

Yep. The dude just mowed down the hometown Seattle Mariners and here he’s mugging with the men and women in charge of keeping the field.

That’s quite a thank you — for a visiting pitcher.

Kansas is a place Clark County’s Greg Biffle knows and loves. He’ll be racing there today, going for a second NASCAR Cup win in a row.

“I feel better than I ever have in these past five seasons, the way our team is and how competitive we are,’’ he told The Associated Press.

Biffle won at Kansas in 2007 and ‘10 and has a strong car again this weekend. Be sure to tune in.

Spring football season is coming to a close. For the Northwest schools, Washington State got its Crimson and Gray game in first.

Next Saturday look for Washington, Oregon and Oregon State to hold their spring games.

And for those who just can’t get enough, Portland State is the latest to finish spring drills with its game on May 12.
