2. Exploring and honoring the past
Fort Vancouver hosts two events to kick off National Parks Week. Junior Ranger Day lets children of all ages earn a Junior Ranger badge by completing fun activities around the fort with the help of rangers and volunteers. The 15th annual Nez Perce Chief Redheart Memorial Ceremony honors the ancestors of Nez Perce tribal members as well as veterans with the Riderless Horse Ceremony and Sacred Pipe Ceremony. The event will be followed by a traditional Native American meal. The public is encouraged to attend; blankets and lawn chairs are recommended.
