A small fire caused no damage to the Georgia-Pacific Camas paper mill this morning.

Firefighters with Camas-Washougal fire, Vancouver fire and East County Fire & Rescue were mustered when the commercial fire was reported just after 11 a.m. at 401 N.E. Adams St.

The fire ignited over a paper machine, said Nancy Viuhkola, mill spokeswoman.

Camas-Washougal Chief Nick Swinhart said built-in sprinklers extinguished most of the fire by the time firefighters arrived. The mill’s private fire brigade helped extinguish what the sprinklers didn’t.

By 11:20 a.m., a firefighter radioed in that the main fire was out.

There was no injuries and minor damage, Swinhart said. The fire was caused by pulp dust in the ventilation systems.

The paper machine went back up right after the fire, Viuhkola said.
