Weather Eye: Wet weather expected to continue through week

Not much new in the weather department this week locally — the forecast calls for rain/showers/rain/showers, etc. There should be an abundance of May flowers to say the least.

We managed to get through the weekend on a dry note until about darkness Sunday evening when the rains returned, pretty much on schedule. It was a good soaker, with over a half-inch here in the city and upwards of 1 or 2 inches in the Clark County foothills.

Most of the precipitation that fell was rain at the Cascades pass levels, but snow fell at the higher elevations. There may be a few inches later today at the pass levels before the freezing level pops back up.

The overall weather pattern keeps higher pressure to our south and lower pressure to our north and I guess the Pacific Northwest gets the spread between the two, in the liquid form.

The big question is, can we manage a third nice weekend in a row? Right now there is only a chance of showers with seasonable temperatures, but it’s only Tuesday, so stay tuned.

Tornadoes killed six people in the U.S. over the weekend, with 110 preliminary tornado reports on Saturday alone. Another dozen or so were reported on Sunday. We are right in the middle of the tornado season and undoubtedly there will be more to come.

Enjoy your week, and keep the umbrella handy!
