Talking Points: One squirrelly ring

What’s the buzz from the world of sports? Here are some items that will have people talking:

1

As described by our good friends at Fark.com: “St. Louis Cardinals World Series ring features faceted rubies, a 14 karat yellow gold frame, 103 round diamonds and one rally squirrel.”

Yep. The Cardinals decided to honor that silly squirrel that got on the Busch Stadium field back in October during the National League Divisional Series with the Phillies. (The squirrel is just below the StL logo on the side of the ring. Click here to view.)

No word if “rally squirrel” was voted a playoff share, but we are thinking the Angels’ “rally monkey” might be feeling a bit jealous right about now.

This man has seen three perfect games, 19 no-hitters, 25 World Series and 12 All-Star Games.

On Sunday he was back on the air and all was right in the baseball world.

Hall of Fame announcer Vin Scully returned to the booth at Dodger Stadium on Sunday after missing five games because of a bad cold.

“Hopefully, I’ll have some fun and stop feeling sorry for myself and get back to work,’’ Scully, 84, told reporters.

It was fitting that Scully returned on a day that honored Jackie Robinson. He watched Robinson play daily with the Brooklyn Dodgers for more than seven years and became friends with the man who broke baseball’s color barrier.
