A Yacolt man was uninjured Friday afternoon when his small plane flipped over into the Columbia River near Kalama.
Cowlitz County Sheriff’s deputies said the pilot was performing touch-and-go moves on an island beach when the Piper Cub airplane flipped over.
Sheriff’s deputies from Cowlitz and Columbia counties, Cowlitz Dive Rescue, Kalama police officers and Kalama fire officials went to the crash site at 3:20 p.m. Friday.
When the rescue boats arrived, deputies learned the pilot had been performing the maneuvers on the south end of Cottonwood Island. He was found safe, according to a press release from the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office.
