There’s hope for girls who want to attend prom but can’t afford an expensive dress, thanks to a Hudson’s Bay junior.

Christina Chen is organizing a prom dress drive at Hudson’s Bay High School, at 1601 E. McLoughlin Blvd. Donations of gently worn or new dresses, shoes and accessories are accepted at the school now through Friday, April 20. Hangers, clothes racks, mirrors and plastic bags are also needed.

Organizers also are looking for donations of perfume, hair care products, makeup and jewelry for raffle prizes.

All high school girls from Vancouver Public Schools are invited to the Hudson’s Bay Commons from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 21, to pick out prom dresses. Dresses will be sold for $5 to students with high school student identification.

Volunteers are needed on the day of the event. Set-up will begin at 10:30 a.m. April 21, and cleanup will be from 3 to 4 p.m. Contact Chen at christina.chen@vansd.org.
