Workshops and job fair: Local agencies and employers are offering a Southwest Washington Hiring Event, open to the public, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Partners in Careers office, 3210 N.E. 52nd St. More than 30 employers with job openings will participate. Free tax help for low-income filers: Free tax assistance and preparation for taxpayers with low and moderate income of all ages, with special attention to those 60 and older, is available from AARP Tax-Aide through April 17. AARP Tax-Aide volunteers, trained in cooperation with the IRS, will offer assistance with personal income tax returns at the following sites: First Baptist Church, 108 W. 27th St.; Marshall Community Center, 1009 E. Free tax assistance: The Community Housing Resource Center provides free tax preparation with assistance from IRS-certified volunteers through April 16. The program targets low- to midincome households who may be eligible for refunds through Earned Income Credits or Children Tax Credits.
