Battle Ground — In its best showing in years, the Prairie High School Air Force Junior ROTC program has qualified to compete in all events at the Western Washington drill and marksmanship championships April 28 at Oak Harbor. In all, 34 Prairie cadets will participate.

“We qualified in all nine events; we were first in five of them and didn’t finish lower than third in the other four,” said Master Sgt. Randy Martin, the Prairie drill coach.

The Battle Ground High School ROTC program has eight qualified cadets, four each in two air-rifle marksmanship events.

High school ROTC teams from Tacoma to Oregon City, Ore., representing various military branches, competed in three separate meets this school year, ending with a March 17 competition at Tacoma’s Stadium High School.
