Clark County Fire District 10 responded to a house fire at 30533 N.E. Healy Road in Chelatchie Prairie just after 2 p.m. Tuesday, but the house was destroyed.
The residents were treated by North Country EMS but were not transported, said Battalion Chief Gordon Brooks.
No firefighters were injured but Brooks said he believed three cats and three dogs died in the fire.
Fifteen firefighters, including some from District 13, fought the blaze and were able to save the garage, Brooks said. Two engines and three water tenders responded.
“It was just well involved when we got there,” Brooks said. “We were able to stop before it got to the garage.”
Brooks estimated a loss of $70,000 in contents and $130,000 to the single-story manufactured home.
Firefighters were on the scene until 8:15 p.m.
When the fire broke out, a caller told emergency dispatchers that a man went into the home, presumably to rescue several animals.
Brooks said Fire Marshal Richard Martin was at the scene investigating.
County property records indicate the home is owned by William and Kathleen Vanarsdale. It sits on a 5-acre lot in the Buckner Estates community.
Brooks said the residents were staying with family.
