KELSO — A 39-year-old Longview man who stole a dog and tried to ransom it for prescription drugs was sentenced to more than three years in prison.

Johnny Lee Jordan had pleaded guilty to theft and extortion charges and was sentenced Friday, March 30, in Cowlitz County Superior Court.

The Daily News reports that Jordan’s girlfriend and a friend have also been charged with extortion in the case and are due for trial later this month in Kelso.

Prosecutors say they stole a 2-year-old English bulldog named Jagger last October from Jennifer Thomas’s yard in Woodland. She received a text message demanding prescription drugs and cash if she wanted her dog back.

Jagger was found dead about three weeks later along railroad tracks in Kelso.
