The city of Vancouver Citizen’s Commission on Mayor/City Council Salaries will hold its fifth meeting and public hearing at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, April 5, at City Hall.
The commission was established by a city charter section approved by city voters in 1994. It comprises five members of the community who are appointed by the mayor, subject to approval by the council. Its purpose is to study the relationship of salaries to the duties of the mayor and city council members and to set their salaries.
The salary reviews are performed on a biannual basis to coincide with the city’s budget cycle. The commission must file its salary schedule by May 1 for inclusion in the 2013-14 budget.
The city council requested no pay raise for 2011 and 2012, and members also started paying into their city-provided health care plans. Currently Mayor Tim Leavitt earns $2,200 a month; Mayor Pro Tempore Larry Smith gets $2,000; and the rest of the council is paid $1,781 for their part-time public service positions.
The meeting will be in the first floor Aspen Conference Room at City Hall, 415 West Sixth St.
