A Vancouver woman who processes concealed weapons permits for the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office has been arrested on suspicion of official misconduct and computer crimes.
Lana Smith, 57, has worked for the Multnomah sheriff’s office for 24 years and was assigned to the concealed handgun licensing unit, according to a sheriff’s news release. She was arrested and booked into a Portland jail Thursday and later released on her own recognizance. She made a first appearance in court Friday.
She has been placed on unpaid administrative leave from her sheriff’s office job.
The sheriff’s office isn’t detailing what she is alleged to have done, other than to say, “This investigation began on 9-15-11 after information was received regarding alleged misuse of computer systems and improper processing of a CHL (concealed handgun license) applicant.”
She currently stands accused of one count of first-degree official misconduct, a felony, one count of second-degree misconduct, a misdemeanor, and two felony counts of computer crime.
