Letter: Oppose invasion of wind turbines

The Columbian
Published: September 28, 2011, 5:00pm

It’s your last chance to voice objections to Whistling Ridge wind turbines proposed on Underwood Mountain in the Columbia River Gorge. Don’t be one of those people who complained about their losses but chose not to prevent them. Everybody would lose, but private corporations would benefit. Fifty swirling white wind turbines over 400 feet tall with large flashing red lights high in the night sky like a strand of Christmas lights would remind everyone who looked up from their walk, their sport, their commute, their work and their leisure. Forever, companies can ship power to California while we get bird kills, habitat loss, the distraction of bright blinking lights and whirling machinery, and a seriously degraded National Scenic Area.

Don’t let taxpayer money subsidize spoiling so much economic value, scenery and habitat and take so much from so many to benefit so few. Send Gov. Chris Gregoire your thoughts and sign the petition at http://www.gorgefriends.org/whistlingridge.
