Fourteen-year-old Mufasa can be found at the Jantzen Beach, Ore., Petco. He came to the shelter when his family could no longer care for him. Mufasa is declawed, so he will need to be indoors only the only cat in the household. He also would enjoy a home with children older than 6 because he does not like to be held for very long.

Hot Dog is a 4-year-old Chihuahua mix that came to the shelter as stray. He is a very sweet, loving dog that enjoys sitting on laps. He will need a home with children older than 16. Because Hot Dog is so shy, he is not on the general adoption floor. If you are interested in meeting him, email fsmith@southwesthumane.org to make an appointment.

These pets are among those available for adoption from noon to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Humane Society for Southwest Washington, 1100 N.E. 192nd Ave., Vancouver. Fees — which can include registered microchip, health exam, a spay or neuter certificate and vaccination — vary. Call 360-693-4746.
